For a sustainable maritime industry
The Fraunhofer Institute for Large Structures in Production Engineering IGP will host its first conference on “Maritime Production Technology” in Ros-tock from October 7-8, 2026.
Rostock. Current challenges in the maritime energy transition, sustainability efforts, as well as innovative shipbuilding require new solutions. With the theme “Maritime Production Technology – Robotics, Digitalization, and AI as Drivers of Innovation,” the Fraunhofer IGP is hosting its first conference on production technology in the maritime sector. Participants can look forward to a series of interesting presentations which offer fresh insights into both research and industry.
The conference’s thematic focus areas include the latest developments regarding the manufacturing of maritime products. The presentation topics range from production for maritime energy transition, digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI) to innovative manufacturing, lightweight construction, as well as automation solutions for the maritime industry. Robert Dreves (EEW Special Pipe Constructions) has been invited as a keynote speaker. The two-day event aims to bring together stakeholders from research and industry to create synergies. Together, participants of the conference will have the opportunity to discuss practical solutions and provide new momentum for a viable and sustainable maritime industry.
“With this conference, we would like to promote cooperation between research and industry in order to create new synergies and contribute to a forward-thinking development of the maritime industry. It is about showing industry which solutions research has to offer. Even more importantly, showing research where industry sees the greatest necessity for action. We have to respond to an increasingly dynamic situation with rapid solutions so as to strengthen an economically competitive maritime industry in Germany through well-suited research,” says Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wilko Flügge, Director of the Fraunhofer IGP.
