Parliamentary State Secretary Gitta Connemann visits the Fraunhofer IGP
Politics Meets Research - Parliamentary State Secretary and Federal Government Commissioner for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Gitta Connemann (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy), will visit the Fraunhofer Institute for Large Structures in Production Engineering (IGP) in Rostock on February 10, 2026. Her visit will include both discussions with staff and a guided tour.
Rostock. With advancing digitalization and the goal of tailoring technical devices to meet the individual needs of various customers and industries, innovations aimed at automating monotonous and health-hazardous tasks are particularly relevant for the research of tomorrow. Scientists at Fraunhofer IGP, in collaboration with various industry partners, are developing intelligent and future-ready solutions.
As part of her SME-focused tour, Ms. Connemann will visit Fraunhofer IGP to learn about the latest research initiatives on these topics and engage in discussions with staff. The visit will begin with a presentation of the institute by Prof. Wilko Flügge, Director of Fraunhofer IGP, who will also lead the discussions.
The second part of the visit will feature a tour of selected laboratories and research stations within the institute's facilities. These include the measurement lab, the VR room (Virtual Reality room), and the technical center. During the tour, the "Large Robot 2.0," including visualization with a VR headset, will be showcased. Additionally, the program will highlight the "seeing" welding robot and the mobile industrial robot SPOT.
"For me, the exchange between politics and research institutions is key to application-oriented research, as this dynamic allows both sides to provide input on the needs of the industry. Through coordinated efforts between research and the targeted use of funding, we can achieve optimal results for the economy," said Prof. Flügge.
